I can’t apply to the EU Settlement Scheme online. How can I get a paper application form?

The EU Settlement Scheme application deadline was 30 June 2021 but you can still apply if you have reasonable grounds for missing the deadline and for some people the deadline does not apply. See here for more information: https://www.gov.uk/settled-status-eu-citizens-families/eligibility and our separate FAQ on late applications

Some people are unable to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme using an online application, and instead have to apply using a paper application form.

You cannot use the online service if you’re applying as :

  • the family member of a British citizen you lived with in Switzerland or an EU or EEA country

  • the family member of a British citizen who also has EU, EEA or Swiss citizenship and who lived in the UK as an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen before getting British citizenship

  • the primary carer of a British, EU, EEA or Swiss citizen

  • the child of an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen who used to live and work in the UK, and you’re in education - or you’re the child’s primary carer

Also, if you do not have a valid passport, national identity card, biometric residence permit or biometric residence card, you may need to get a paper application form (see our separate FAQ on this).

You will need to contact the EU Settlement Scheme Resolution Centre and explain why you need a paper application form. The forms are not sent automatically on request and it is at the discretion of the Home Office caseworker you speak to whether or not to send you a form. See here for more details on when to use a paper application, how to request one and how to return the completed form  https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/apply-to-the-eu-settlement-scheme-by-post-or-email If you need to post your identity document, make sure you send it recorded delivery, and that the return envelope you supply is also franked for recorded delivery.
