I don’t have a valid passport or national identity card, how can I apply to the EU Settlement Scheme?
If you have an expired passport or national identity card, first check the Home Office EUSS Guidance (search for the section called ‘Required proof of identity and nationality’) to see whether your nationality is in a list of countries that have extended the validity of your identity document.
If your document falls within this extended expiry date, then you can still apply to the EUSS online, but you won’t be able to use the Android/Apple phone app to scan your document. Instead you will have to send your document to the Home Office by post.
If you cannot rely on an extended expiry date, or you don’t have an identity document, then you must contact your embassy or consulate to try to get a valid identity document as soon as possible, and before the EUSS deadline of 30 June 2021.
If you cannot get a valid identity document before 30 June 2021, contact the EU Settlement Resolution Centre (contact details on this page) as soon as possible and ask for a paper application form. You will need to explain in detail why you cannot get a valid identity document, and provide evidence if possible. If you need help, contact Settled or Here for Good - see https://www.the3million.org.uk/useful-links for contact details.
