How do I upgrade my pre-settled status to settled status?

Upgrading pre-settled status to settled status is not really an upgrade, it is a fresh application to the EU Settlement Scheme.

What you shouldn’t do: is log in to your Home Office account and add new residence evidence to your original pre-settled status application. We know some people have done this because the process that this GOV.UK webpage leads people to can be confusing.

What you should do: You have to start a brand-new application. This means either starting again with the EU Exit: ID Document Check app to scan your identity document, or starting a new paper application.

Important: If you are applying with a different identity document (passport, national identity card or biometric card) to the one you used to apply for pre-settled status, note that the GOV.UK website says:

“If your identity document has changed since you applied for pre-settled status, you must tell UKVI about your new document by updating your UKVI account details before you apply to switch.”
