Announcement: Nicolas Hatton is stepping down as CEO of the3million

the3million announces today that our CEO, Nicolas Hatton, will be leaving his role at the end of the year. Over the course of the last six and a half years, Nicolas has been a dedicated leader who understood the importance of collectively standing up for our rights as EU citizens.

Under Nicolas’s leadership, the3million went from a meeting in a pub in 2016 between EU citizens terrified by the consequences of the Brexit referendum, to a strong voice for EU citizens in the UK today.

His role in creating the3million has been fundamental, from empowering the grassroots to building systems for shared decision-making and partnerships based on trust with key institutions and stakeholders.

From the very beginning, the3million’s key partnership with British in Europe made an important statement of unity and solidarity to the world: we are not bargaining chips. He facilitated a space where our expertise and knowledge have become trusted by both UK  and EU institutions throughout the Withdrawal Agreement negotiations. From galvanising EU citizens from the grassroots through mass lobbies in Parliament, to setting up teams with both EU and UK parliamentary experience and sound immigration law expertise, Nicolas has helped the3million become the high-impact organisation it is today.

The Board of Directors extends their sincere appreciation and gratitude for his service and many achievements in the course of his time with the3million.

Thanks to the excellent work of our staff, volunteers, directors and supporters, past and present, the3million is in a great position to look forward to the future with optimism and embrace change. We are in a secure financial position, we have exciting new projects on the horizon and we continue to stand up for EU citizens in the UK through advocacy, communications and community organising.

The Board of Directors is overseeing interim measures in the confidence that the3million is ready for the next phase of organisational growth and a new strategic direction, continuing our strong leadership in the third sector.
